In short, A Celebration was a master class in the art form of cabaret, performed to a packed house, in which all the boxes of excellence were ticked. The man himself: looking superbly dapper, relaxed and absolutely at home on stage. Now add a truck load of charisma and that notable million-dollar smile, plus an easy and genuine connection to each and every audience member.

His voice welcomes you into his heart, and a most generous heart it is in that it shares emotions that some of us have never experienced. Another strength of Dain’s is that none of his interpretations sounds like any other I’ve heard.

Cabaret Scenes: Dain is a classic crooner—a balladeer who invested quiet but intense emotions into each of his songs.
Although he concentrated on romantic ballads, every so often he bestowed a smile on the audience that was pure sunshine. His comments, not really formal patter, were charming and genuine, as he explained the origins of the project, shared some off-beat show biz experiences with Landis, and saluted his relationship with his late husband of 30 plus years, Bill Sensenbrenner, to whom many of the love songs were dedicated.

Frank Dain is a stunning vocalist. He is also a stunning storyteller. These two things do not always go hand-in-hand on the cabaret stage, and more’s the pity. The world would be a better place if every person who stepped up onto that stage one foot off the ground were able to master the balance of vocal ability and natural public speaking, and anyone with a wish to play cabaret could learn a thing or two from Frank Dain.

The long and short of it is that Frank Dain does not focus on the song – he focuses on the story. The stories. All of them are about love and being and loved. This could be a dangerous path because love is, well, either boring or thrilling. If you are not in love why do you want to hear about it? And if you ARE in love it’s all you want to talk about no matter the disposition of the person who is forced to listen.
JAZZ JAM at Don’t Tell Mama A Warm and Welcoming Open Mic For All Genres
Dudes, there’s a new open mic in town, and it is a groovy, jammin’, swingin’ time happening in the Brick Room over at Don’t Tell Mama, and guess what? It is completely and totally one hundred percent pressure-free. It is the coolest, coziest, most casual atmosphere, so much so that this devoutly non-performing person even considered getting up to sing.
