One of the first phone calls I make when I begin a new project is to my colleague and friend, Frank Dain. Frank has been my go-to designer for all production materials for shows that my company and I produce—from posters, to websites, flyers, programs, social media posts, and more—as well as my website, logos, stationary, and just about anything my companies and I, The Voice Studio and James William Productions, need. A creative, tasteful, and on-time collaborator, beginning in 2005 with our Stephen Schwartz musical, Captain Louie, followed by our Drama Desk Award-winning play, Zero Hour, our New York City Center concert, When Everything Was Possible, and my musical memoir, Proud Ladies, I am more than proud to have Frank as a must-have part of my team. I recommend him without reservation for anyone who wants his very capable design abilities. – Kurt Peterson
One of the biggest motivations for my continuing to produce the Bistro Awards show every year is that I get the chance to spend two or three whole months working with Frank Dain. For the past fifteen years, Frank has designed and laid out our Bistro Awards show programs that have become a true and valuable piece of memorabilia from our annual evenings. He works with me as well on our weekly promos and many of the graphics for our website home page. Frank’s attention to detail, his creative ideas for layout—always changing slightly each year—and his expert and methodical way of working, are just part of the reason I enjoy working with him: Frank makes working on a project fun and enjoyable! He has the uncanny ability to make one feel that they are the only client he has at the time. He is warm, open, and knowledgeable. My working with him has become a true collaboration where he is able to translate ideas that I may have floating around inside my head into a visual interpretation. I’m already looking forward to working with him this year on our 40th anniversary show edition! – Sherry Eaker
To say that Frank Dain is an excellent graphic designer barely scratches
the surface of the wit, imagination, and excellence he brings to each project. Frank did the graphics package for my two recent MAC Award-winning shows. Maybe he didn’t get me the awards, but he raised the bar on people’s expectations so high that I had to work my hardest to match it. The brilliant craziness he brought to the materials for Animal Magnetism and the clever, audacious cards and posters he made for Lynda Rodolitz Makes Art are still remarked on by cabaret goers. And no moody genius he—Frank is easy and generous as a collaborator and makes every project a joy. – Lynda Rodolitz
I don’t know what I’d do without the inventive and eye-catching designs of Frank Dain for all my advertisements, posters, postcards, and eblasts. He’s always bold in his choices regarding color and graphics, so l simply refer to him as “My Master Designer.” – KT Sullivan
Superior design, boundless creativity, superb taste, exemplary turnaround, and always a joyful collaboration. That’s been my experience with Frank Dain’s artwork for almost two decades. – Jeff Harnar
I have had the pleasure of working with Frank Dain repeatedly on various graphic design projects, including his excellent creations of multiple full-page advertisements in his role as Editor of Cabaret Scenes Magazine. Frank has also wonderfully crafted full-length playbills for complex performance productions with which I’ve been involved relating to the music of my father, pianist and composer Cy Walter, and likewise for that of composer Alec Wilder. In every instance Frank’s inspired creativity and suggestions have significantly improved the final product. Moreover, he works hard to meet, and is very responsive to, his client’s needs, always seeking to ensure timely achievement of the project goals. I invariably turn to Frank Dain whenever I need the expertise of a talented editor and graphic design professional and have always been very satisfied. And, to boot (and certainly germane), Frank is a lovely fellow with whom it is a delight to collaborate! – Mark Walter
Frank Dain gets my highest recommendation as a graphic designer. We’ve done many projects together; I hope we’ll get to do many more. The CD covers he’s created for me for albums celebrating showbiz legends—such as George M. Cohan, Al Jolson, and Fanny Brice—have a classic, timeless, elegant feel I really love. And he’s just great to work with; he’s utterly reliable. I’d trust Frank with my life. – Chip Deffaa
